THE BATTLE DRESS

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —It was with interest that I read that the Minister of Defence hopes to see the third echelon equipped with the new battle dress. This dress consists of a lumber jacket and trousers. It certainly gives freedom of movement; but what about the movement of the bottom of the lumber jacket away from the trouser tops? Will not there frequently be a gap through which chills will reach the kidneys of the troops? Can the Minister of Defence say definitely, and honestly, that the battle dress has not already been condemned, and its use discontinued, in the British Army, for the reason that so many men have already contracted chills in the kidneys througTi wearing it?—l am. etc., Cold.
