COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES
Mrs J. Hannan. of Castle street, entertained some 140 guests on Monday at the Crawford Lounge, the occasion being the birthday of. hex Younger son. Mervyn Iva. Mr J. Moore presided, and Mr A. Webster proposed the toast of the quest of honour (who was presented with a gold key), and Mr T. Mclnnes proposed the toast of "The Absent Brother Overseas." Mr J. Moore acted as M.C., and dance music was supplied by Mr S. McConnell.

Mr and Mrs W. Kirk, of Waipahl. recently entertained a number of friends at a dance in their barn to celebrate the coming-cf-age of their eldest son William. Mr K. Whiteside proposed the chief toast. Music was supplied by Messrs A. Bagrie and 'J' Osborne, and extras were played bv Messrs A. and J. Laughton and G. Withers, Mr K. The annual meeting of the Palmerston Institute was held on March 14. Mrs Forrest presiding. A donation was made by members present of six parcels for soldiers abroad. They are to be forwarded to the Patriotic Association. The hostesses were Mesdames Burrow. Ryan. A. McGregor and Cowan.
