FORECAST FOR OTAGO COLD AND SQUALLY The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Strong south-westerly to southerly winds to gales. Weather cold and squally, with heavy showers and further snow on the ranges. Rough seas. DOMINION FORECAST SNOW ON THE RANGES The following is the official weather forecast for the Dominion:— Pressure is high to the north and west of New Zealand, while a disturbance of the westerly type is passing rapidly across the far southern portion of the South Island. Indications are for:— Winds.—From a westerly quarter at first, but with a southerly change advancing from the south, and becoming general within the next 24 hours. Fresh to strong generally, and reaching gale force in exposed positions from’Taranaki and Hawke's Bay southwards. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Moderate on the east coast north of Otago Peninsula. but rising, otherwise rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west to south-west winds to gales, and very rough seas. Weather. —Dull over the northern half of the North Island, with fairly general rain; unsettled in western districts from Taranaki southwards, with showers heavy at times; elsewhere fair at first, but with rain accompanying the southerly change: temperatures becoming cold, with further snow on the ranges of the South Island. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Yesterday morning the sun shone brightly, but the wind veered to the southwest again and brought heavy clouds, a heavy rain shower falling early in the afternoon. For the rest of the day the sky was overcast and the barometer fell steadily to 29.20 Inches (989 millibars).
