BALCLUTHA Railway Crossing Incident At the monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Balclutha yesterday, before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., Frank Cooke, of Balclutha, was charged with, on November 30, at Findgand, driving a car across the railway crossing when the line was not clear. Constable Duff prosecuted. The defendant admitted the offence. The constable stated that a collision with a train was narrowly averted. Mr Walter, for the defendant said the latter was unaware of the Thursday train from Owaka, and he did the best he could in the circumstances when he accelerated and crossed in front of the train. Allan Marshall (Port Molyneux), charged with riding a bicycle without a light on the Balclutha-Port Molyneux highway after dark, was convicted and ordered to pay costs of court (12s).

Erie Molyneux Bishop (Alexandra) was charged with, at Lovell's Flat on November 24, exceeding a speed of 25 miles an hour with a motor lorry, and was convicted and fined 40s. with costs (10s).

David Hall (Dunedin) was charged with speeding at Balclutha on October 30 and was fined 30s, with costs (10s). Godfrey F. Paape (Dunedin), charged with exceeding 30 miles per hour in the. restricted area at Balclutha, in a letter to the court admitted the offence, and was convicted and fined £3.' with costs (10s). Civil Cases Louis Ernst Wahrlich, Dunedin (Mr Macdonald) v. David Johnston Munro, Stirling, claim £6 18s 6d on a judgment summons. After hearing the evidence of the judgment debtor, an order was made for payment of the amount at the rate of 2s 6d a week, the first payment to be made on February 1. F. Taxi drivers and others whose business compelled considerable traffic oyer the road at Kaka Point between the store and the picnic ground at Kororo Creek complain of the way that lupins and other growth have been allowed to overhang the narrow road, so that several drivers, when passing other vehicles, had their faces scratched by the branches. This road is under the jurisdiction of the Clutha County Council. Complaints have also been made concerning the heaps of loose gravel left lying on the main Balclutha-Kaka Point highway after grading operations.
