The title role is charmingly interpreted by the popular juvenile player Shirley Temple, who is supported by a strong cast, including the English actor, Richard Greene, and Anita Louise, Arthur Treacher, and Cesar Romero. More attractive than ever in the natural pastel tones of technicolour, Shirley Temple appears as a girl who is left alone in England when her, father sails for South Africa to take his part in the Boer War. When it is reported that her father has fallen in battle and adjudged to have died a bankrupt, the unfortunate child is condemned to the drudgery and humiliation of the kitchen by her spiteful schoolmistress. With her father's spirit, Shirley rebels against this unfair/treatment, and, with a firm conviction that he did not die, she sets out in search of him. This leads to adventures and a satisfying , climax. The matinee to-day commences at 2 pjn. OPERA HOUSE " Mystery House " With'Ann Sheridan and Dick Purcell in the starring roles, a detective film, made from Mignon Eberhart's mystery novel called " Mystery House," will be presented at the Opera House to-night and to-morrow in conjunction with the Dick Powell picture " Hard to, Get." The sleuth in "Mystery House" is Lance O'Leary. already popular through Miss Eberhart's numerous stories. Purcell plays the part of the detective, and Miss Sheridan a nurse who fears' that her patient has been murdered instead of dying of heart failure, as the doctor certified. "Hard, to Get" Popular Dick Powell returns to the screen after a long absence in "Hard to Get," a merry comedy, with Olivia de Havilland and Charles Winninger in the principal supporting parts. Although the emphasis of the picture is on comedy, Dick does not disappoint the admirers of his vocal- talent, and siritrs two songs, " You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby,", and "There's a Sunny Side to Every Situation."

Cricket: Oamaru B's Good Score* The only cricket match played in Oamaru last. Saturday was thai between Oamaru B and Albion. Oamaru opened the game with some fine batting, Zimmermann being top scorer with a magnificent 98. Blackburn also had a good strike with 61. Oamaru's total was 320. All of the Albion fielders had an attempt at bowling. Gleeson, who came on to bowl near the end of the innings, took two wickets for eight runs in three overs. Robinson, one of Albion's opening batsmen, was still in at stumps, with a tally of 32, Gleeson (10) and Tucker, (0) being the dismissed players. Park carried on with Robinson until stumps, bringing the total to 49.

Athletics: The Milton Meeting More than 20 members of the North Otago Club made the trip to Milton on Saturday to compete in the Tokomairiro Club's annual meeting, quite r a good share of success coming their way. Outstanding performances were those of A. L. Fagg (10ft lOin in the Pole Vault), Miss B. Forbes (sft in the High Jump), H. Wilson (130 ft 9in in the Javelin), G. Roney (sft 3in in the High Jump), and J. Ormandy (double win in sprints). It is pleasing to note that J. Dalgleish is showing good form, as evidenced by his effort of 38ft Jlin in the Shot Putt at his first competitive apoearance for the season. All members thoroughly enjoyed the outing, and spoke highly of the hospitality of the Tokomairiro Club. A subject strongly commented upon on this occasion was the few representatives that were present from Dunedin, a fact that is regrettable, when one considers that Milton is only about an hour's travel from Dunedin by car. It is unfortunate that this matter somewhat confirms a suspicion held in various quarters for some time that the Otago Centre of the (New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has a tendency to develop a purely metropolitan outlook, with increasing neglect to foster the sport in country districts. It would be well to remind the centre officials that country clubs have supplied Otago '.with a number of fine athletes, including A. A. Cameron, M. R. Spillane, J. Dalgleish, H. W. Milner, R. McKenzie, A. G. Clark, A. L. Fagg, J. G, Leckie, T. Pickering, I. Murison, W. R. Creeser and J. Stewart, Misses B. Forbes, R. Grant and D. Adams, and probably others; and there can be rio question that, if amateur athletics receives its rightful encouragement and support from the centre amongst the country clubs, other prominent performers will follow in the footsteps of those mentioned and give equally good service to OtEgo. Good work has been done by past executives of the centre, and in this respect it is hoped that the results will at least be maintained, if not excelled. In the meantime, it may be useful as far as country clubs are concerned if some consideration could be given towards some scheme of mutual assistance based on a regular interchange of visits in support of each other's more important meetings. SHACKERS' REGATTA ANNUAL EVENT ON SATURDAY
