SHOCKING CRIME

FATHER SENT TO GAOL SIX YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 14. “This is the worst case of the sort to come before me during the 15 years I have been a judge,” said Mr Justice Ostler in the Supreme Court to-day in sentencing Herbert Richard Colquitt, who admitted two charges of Indecent assault and one of incest. “ One charge relates to your daughter, aged 13, another to a daughter aged 11, and another to a daughter aged 10,” continued his Honor. “Their safety demands that you be kept awEjy from them until they are able to fend for themselves. You richly deserve flogging. You will be sentenced tq six years’ imprisonment." Other prisoners sentenced were as follows:—John Abraham Peters, unlawful carnal knowledge, two years reformative detention: James Ogden Alexander, false pretences, two years’ reformative detention: John Tahaua, breaking, entering, and theft, two years’ probation; Nehe Netana, breaking, entering and theft, two years’ probation; Tarei Hotere, breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, two years’ probation; Charles Kitchener Blackmore, unlawful carnal knowledge, two years in the Borstal.
