WOMEN AND CHILDREN
SOCIETY FOR PROTECTION The monthly meeting ot the Society for Protection of Women and Children was held In the Council Chamber of the Town Hall on Wednesday, when there were present Dr McKinnon (in the chair;, the Mayoress (Mrs A. H. Allen) Mesdames Downing, Aslin, Foster, Park. Ross, Miss Runciman, the Rev. W, A. Curzon-Siggers. and the secretary (Miss Coe-Smith). The secretary’s report was read and discussed The number of callers for the month had totalled 234, and visits 21. Maintenance money and social security benefits collected and disbursed had amounted to £159 13s Bd. The secretary was congratulated on her appointment as conciliator in the Court of Domestic Relations, which had recently been established by the Government. The question of the control of delinquent boys at the Industrial School vyas brought up for discussion, as it was felt that the character of these boys deteriorated when they were living an uncontrolled life in the open. It was explained bv a member of the committee that escape was easy, as their liberty was not seriously curtailed, and that it was easy to escape the vigilance of the authorities when they roved about In country districts.
