LOCAL GOVERNMENT

THE AMALGAMATION SCHEME DEFERRED BY OUTBREAK OF WAR (Ter United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. An indication that the outbreak of war had deferred the reintroduction in Parliament of the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W E. Parry) in an address read to a meeting of the Town Planning Board to-day. “After much struggle I had prevailed upon my colleagues in the Government that this Bill was not the drastic measure which some people thought it to be.” Mr Parry said, “ and that it really was designed to help us to secure a better system of local government than we have at present. The Government had agreed to its introduction. but the outbreak of war deferred it along with many other measures.”
