GREAT ECONOMIES

BIG TRANSPORT MERGER # FOURTEEN OPERATORS COMBINE (Per United Press Association; ASHBURTON, Nov. 1. The transport operators throughout Ashburton district were merged last night into one company, described by the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr Langford) as one of the soundest concerns in New Zealand at the present time, and one of the most important moves made in the transport industry in the Dominion. Fourteen operators pooled their whole resources, and the company, which is effective from this morning, has a capital of £52 300. Only 'three operators stay out. The company will control 66 goods vehicle authorities, four passenger and seven school bus routes. Great economies will be effected in their operation through the elimination of overlapping and an enormous saving in mileage. _________________
