PIGEON RACING
DUNEDIN CLUB The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew I he first of two races from Wellington during the Labour week-end. Mr Elbow liberated 135 birds, representing 21 lofts, in dull weather with a south-easterly wind, and the birds made a good flight under .such conditions. The winning bird flew the 333 miles in 9hr 55rnin at a velocity of 1131 yards a minute, taking a trophy given by Mr J. Taylor for first nominated yearling. The results were as follows: M. Anderson's Star Ranger 1 J. Scoullar’s Puzzle 2 M. Anderson’s Lone Star 3 J. Ramsay's Raven 4 A. Esquilant’s Tiki 5 ,T. Ramsay's Star o' Doon t> U. Cunningham's Echo 7 The club flew its second Wellington race last Saturday. Mr Elliott liberated 140 birds from 22 lofts in dull weather with a south-easterly wind. The birds evidently flew into bad weather and conditions at
the home end were very wet and the race turned out to be the hardest this season. Only three birds timed in on the day. The' winner flew 383 miles in llhr 18min at a velocity of 992 yards per minute. The results were as follows; — M. Anderson's Rough Passage 1 J. Scoullar’s Red Ray 2 D. Cunningham's Buster 3 A. Morris’s Wee Ann 4 J, Ramsay’s Wild Queen 5 L. Tonks's Jimmy 6 A. Stone's Grenalda ‘ The club will fly its yearling Derby on Saturday from Parnassus 1201 miles).
