Sir Hubert Ostler left for Invercargill yesterday to preside at the quarterly sittings of the Supreme Court. At the fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council last night it was decided to grant a further three months’ leave of absence to Cr J. H. Hinton. Mr H. Lambert, of the Mormon Church, left by the express yesterday morning en route to America. He has been stationed on missionary work in New Zealand, and spent the last year in Dunedin. The Maharaja Manikya of Tripura is a through passenger by the Mariposa from San Francisco on his return to India (states a Press Association telegram from Auckland). He left England two days before the declaration of war, having been advised that the best way to return home was by way of America. New Zealand. Sydney, Sourabaya. Batavia and Colombo. The Maharaja and his party of 10 are making a one-day motor trip to Rotorua. Northbound passengers by Union Airways yesterday morning were Messrs F. G. Duncan, R. A. Kinnear and D. Dunne for Christchurch and Mrs A. Joseph and Miss E. Scudmore for Auckland. Southbound passengers by the afternoon plane were Mr J. E. Brown from Wellington and Mr L. D. Hudson from Christchurch.
