FIRST EVENING MEETING The first of this reason’s evening sports meetings, held under the auspices of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, was run off on the Caledonian Grounds last evening, a cold wind making conditions unpleasant for competitors and spectators. The meeting was completed in good time, the two cycling events being held at the same time as the track events were in progress. E. Hely (Anglican) put up a good showing in the 100 Yards, which he won in the excellent time of lOsec. He was. however, aided by a following wind. E S. Brook (Dunedin) ran well in the Junior 880 Yards, winning from J. Hislop (Anglican). In the Mile Open W. Burrows (Mornlngton), another young runner, finished convincingly with a 40-yards lead after a fast final lap. His time was 4mln 28 3-ssec, and he should be prominent in future meetings. Only two cycling events were held. J. McConnell winning the Half-mile President’s Handicap and M. McLachlan the Mile and a-half Handicap, both finishes being extremely close.
