MR WEBB THE LAWGIVER

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Your correspondent with the fearsome title "The Axe” may be a disgruntled Nationalist on the look-out for Labour heads to sever or a fireeating pro-wai fienq who sees red when anyone dares to hold other views, but I am entirely with him when he strikes a blow against the attitude of Mi P C Webb, a Minister of the Crown, who, having flouted the law of the land and “done time” for it, publicly boasts that in similar circumstances he would do, the same again. What a commentary upon the type of man that has been elected to make, our laws! In effect, he is declaring that

if he doesn’t happen to approve a law he will not obey it. Presumably he will concede to others the right which he arrogates to himself, in which case, having regard to the popularity of some of the laws made by Mr Webb and his friends, I venture to . suggest that the world has not prisons enough to accommodate the multitude that would qualify for incarceration.—l am. etc. Mumho Jumbo.
