MAORI LABOURER RE-ARRESTED

HAMILTON, Oct. 30,
Apprehended at Pirongia following a smart arrest by Sergeant Clist, of To Awamutu, who after noticing that the butcher’s shop at Pirongia had been robbed, interrogated the accused, and placed him in the cells, from which the accused made a dash for liberty, a Maori labourer, Wiremu Porotene, was arrested in the Whangarei district on October 23, some four months after his escape from the cells This morning he .appeared before the magistrate at Hamilton charged with stealing £29 from the butchers shop and escaping from custody. Pleading guilty, he was committed to the bupreme Court for sentence. It was disclosed in court that a button found in the butcher’s shop corresponded with one missing from the overcoat of accused.
