REIGN OF PRINCIPLE
The Marquess of Lothian, the new British Ambassador to America, on arrival in New York said:—“ British public opinion is consolidated in the conviction that unless resistance is made to any further attempt to remake the map of Europe by violence and destruction of the independence of free nations international life will become intolerable. The last remnants of reason, justice and good faith as governing factors will disappear, and the reien of tooth and claw of the junsilo will take their place. Public opinion is not averse from change by revision. On the contrary, it feels that there can be no stable peace or prosperity for the nations unless a possible needed revision be made by pacific means, but i(. also feels that the day has come to end the successful use of war as an instrument of imperialist -policy. The British Government, Parliament, and people are now united and resolute in resisting aggression as the first step to restoring the reign of principle in international affairs.”
