QUEENSTOWN Wakatipu Power Board The last meeting of the Wakatipu Electric Power Board was held on Friday. The board has now been merged into the Otago Electric Power Board, and in accordance with the original draft of the Bill relating to the change of representations, the amalgamation will take effect as from December 1. The constitution of the Otago Electric Power Board admits of one representative each from Arrowtown and Lake County, and in conformity with this, Mr W. J. James, former chairman of the Wakatipu Board, was appointed the Arrow Borough Council representative, and Mr W. P. Saunders for Lake County. It was decided to pay outstanding debts and close the board's account at the bank. The acting secretary (Mr W. J. Miller) and Mr W. J. James, the chairman of the board during the greater part of its existence, were thanked for their services. The Weather Rain has fallen at intervals during the last few days and has been warmly welcomed by farmers generally and cottage gardeners. Yesterday morning there was a mild snowstorm, and the day was cold. Wakatipu Golf Club The Wakatipu Golf Club closed its winter season on Saturday with a mixed foursome match. There was a good attendance of players and visitors, and a pleasant afternoon was spent. On Sunday a friendly match was played between the Arrow and Wakatipu Clubs. The Wakatipu Club held a closing dance last night. Personal Mr and Mrs E. McGill, of Wellington, have been visiting Queenstown. Miss E. Ritchie, of Dunedin, is on holiday in Queenstown. Miss Audrey Hallimore, of Invercargill, Is spending a holiday in Queenstown. Miss Molly Mackenzie has returned to Dunedin after a visit to her parents at Mount Nicholas Station. Mrs R. Elliott, of Glenorchy, is visiting Dunedin. Miss M. Salmond is spending the summer vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Salmond, of Eastern terrace. Mr and Mrs Lea. of Invercargill, have been visiting Queenstown. Miss May Mackenzie, of Invercargill, is spending a holiday in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs R. Stroud have returned to Invercargill after a holiday in Queenstown. Mr E. J. Lowen is visiting Dunedin. Mr T. J. Donaldson has returned to Invercargill after spending his annual leave with Mr and Mrs T. McSoriley Mr and Mrs D. R. McDonald, of Dunedin, are spending a holiday at “ Tutuila." Mr and Mrs P. Martin-Smith have returned from a holiday visit to Akaroa and Christchurch. OMAKAU Cricket The cricket match Omakau v. Excelsior B, played at Alexandra on Saturday, resulted in a close finish, Omakau winning by one run just before time. Batting first, Omakau made 134 (Gillies 28, Gardiner 24, Mclntosh 21; Mount four for 43). Excelsior scored 133 (E. Nightingale 54, Goodlet 28, Pierce 19; O’Connor four for 36, White four for 29). Personal' Mr H. E. Lowen, the station master at Lauder, commenced his annual leave on Friday, and is bei#ig relieved by Mr P. Mulder, of Dunedin. Mr G. U. Llndley, of the local railways staff, is at present on annual leave. Mr J. Brown, of Dunedin, is acting as relieving officer. Lawn Tennis In the A Grade matches on Saturday, Oturehua defeated Becks, at Becks, by 10 sets to 6, and Lauder defeated St. Bathans by 9 sets to 5, at St. Bathans. The Omakau team had a bye. In the B Grade, Omakau beat Poolburn No. 2, at Omakau, by 11 sets to 3, and Becks defeated Ophir, at Ophlr, by 8 sets to 6. CROMWELL Molyneux Dredge Shifted The Molyneux Gold Dredging Company’s dredge on the Molyneux River has been shipped upstream and is on the site of the old Hartley and Riley claim, a distance of slightly less than two miles from Cromwell. It will be Interesting to note whether this dredge, which to date has not fulfilled expectations, will obtain anything in the nature of the record returns won by the famous dredge which formerly worked on this area. Change In the Weather During the early part of last week the weather was decidedly unpleasant, with strong northerly winds which added to the dry conditions already ruling. On Wednesday evening, however, there was a welcome change when heavy rain set in and continued steadily until nearly midnight. Conditions were still unsettled on Thursday, with occasional showers of rain and a hail shower. Although the rain was badly needed and will be most beneficial, the change brought a further light coating of snow well down on the mountains, but with milder weather this is quickly disappearing. Cricket In the association cricket match Lowburn v. Excelsior A, at Lowburn, Lowburn defeated Excelsior by 167 runs to 48, F. Partridge, jun., 57, D. Caskie 28; B. Partridge six for 13, M. Partridge four for 22. ALEXANDRA New Motor Camp Motor visitors to Central Otago this year will have a new camping ground provided for their convenience at Alexandra. There are 4i acres of well-lald-out grounds in five terraces all sown in grass. Shelter trees, flowering shrubs and hedges have been planted, and a huge kitchen is provided with sinks and equipment, and the matter of having electric slot fireplaces installed is being investigated. Electricity is laid on all over the grounds. Personal Mr R. Jones, the statlonmaster at Gore, is at present on a visit to Alexandra. Mr R. S. Kinnaird left to-day to attend a joint meeting of Canterbury and Otago fruitgrowers at Christchurch. LAWRENCE Cricket At Simpson Park on Saturday, in the Stewart Shield Competition, the Lawrence cricket team played Milton A. the game resulting in a draw. “Play had to be abandoned owing to heavy rain. Milton A batted and scored 49 for four wickets (J Kane 22 not out; R. Hancock two wickets for 20 runs, J. Cavanagh one for 13). Personal Mr J. Cavanagh left on Sunday on his return journey to Nelson. Mrs B. S. Fulton has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mr R. D. Cavanagh returned to Kalkoura on Sunday. CLYDE Girl Guides During a visit to Clyde on Labour week-end, opportunity was taken by the local Girl Guides to make a presentation to their late captain. Miss M. L. Davidson, of Dunedin Guide P Gye, on behalf of the girls, handed to Miss Davi 1son a sliver breakfast cruet as an appieciation of her services to the troop. Mesdames E. C. Wood and J. R. Hollows, on behalf of the committee, presented Miss Davidson with a crystal vase. Town Hall To assist in defraying the cost of the seats recently purchased from the Octagon Theatre in Dunedin, a dance was held in the Town Hall on Friday night, and a good sum was raised for the purpose. The seats are in good order and a decided acquisition to the patrons of the pictures Bowling Tire Clyde bowling green was opened on Saturday afternoon, Mr T W. Holden welcoming about 60 players. The sister clubs were well represented. Mrs H E Stevens rolled the first bowl. The annual tournament and reunion of Digger ’’ bowlers will take place at Cromwell on Saturday, commencing at 9 a.m. Rinks from the majority of clubs have already expressed their intention of

being present, and the other clubs are advised to send their entries to the centre secretary as early as possible. Croquet Mrs H. E. Stevens, the president of the Clyde Croquet Club, addressed a large gathering at the opening of the croquet lawns. The Alexandra Club was well represented. Mr T. W. Holden made the first hoop, and competitions were played during the afternoon, which was fine and warm.
