For the first time International Magicians’ Day was celebrated in New Zee and on Friday and Saturday last. On that day all magicians, whenever possibie. wlll, give their services free of charge to an pear and entertain the inmates of chf[dren’s hospitals, orphanages, and othei-In-stitutions. That, of all days, has more than , the usual magical significance, for; nnrt> of all its traditions are steeped In magic and occult lore. In Dunedin, the Otago Magical Society celebrated the day by visiting several of the local orphanages. The eight members who comprised the party were most successful In their efforts, and the youthful audiences will long remember what was shown them. . Magic, all of a bright and breezy nature, brought forth hearty laughter, while paper-tear-ing and balancing held the young admirers’ wrapt attention. The, magic sums were hardly believed, but the production , of sweets from nowhere and their distribution were a feature in the programmes. Altogether it was a happy night for the children, as well as for the members of the society who provided the entertainment. ...
