FIRST OPEN MEETING RAIN MARS FIXTURE Although marred by almost continuous misty rain, the first open athletic meeting of the season at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday attracted a fair number of competitors. The meeting was conducted by the Caversham and Civil Service Clubs. The track was heavy, but in spite of this some good performances were recorded. Results were as follows: — 100 Yards Handicap E. PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS RAIN CAUSES POSTPONEMENT Rain again interfered with the primary schools’ championship sports meeting held under the auspices of the Otago State Primary Schools’ Sports Association on the Logan Park grounds on Saturday, and, as in previous years, the decision was made that the sports should be continued this afternoon, weather permitting. There were excellent entries in all events, 1400 competitors taking part, and in the drill display, which had to be postponed until this afternoon. 25.0 children will be on parade. On Saturday morning the majority of the heats were run oil but, with the exception of the Boys’ Jumping events, few finals have been decided. Two records were broken in the morning. H. B. Gore (St. Clair) reached 3ft 11 Jin in the High Jump, under 12 years, 2|in better than the previous record: and W Mclntosh (North-East Valley) made an excellent attempt in the Broad Jump, under 13 years, to reach 16ft 64in, Ift lin over the existing record Although he was not an official competitor. J. Pullar (Tahakopa) distinguished himself in the under 13 events, jumping 31ft Sin in the Hop, Step, and Jump, and 14ft Gin in the Broad Jump.
