WAGES INCREASE GFIANTED IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Oct. 20. Following joint negotiations between employers and operatives in the cotton industry at Manchester to-day an agreement was reached by which work people will receive a wage advance ox 12J per cent, on current wages in the manufacturing section, the increase being granted in two pai'ts, 5 per cent, on November 20 and V* per cent, on January 1, 1940.. variations in wage rates will be based on the cost of living figure issued by the Ministry of Labour. In the spinning branch the advance is 12.64 per cent, on current earnings, and will come into operation on October 13.
