RECHABITES
The Independent Order of Rechabites held its twentieth annual juvenile competitions in singing and elocution at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kensington, on Wednesday. Bro. A. T. Mclndoe, P.S.J-T,. occupied the chair, and was supported by the Prov. C.R., Bro. R. Graves. Miss Buswell acted as judge for the elocution section, and Bro. Gordon James adjudicated the singing, the total entries being 11 in excess of those for last year. The results are as follows: Elocution.—Grade 1: Bro. Colin Fleury (Primrose Tent). Grade 2: Boys—Bro. A. Graves (Rising Star) 1, Bro. A. Stevenson (Crystal S.) 2. Girls—Sister N. Graves (Rising Star) 1. Sister J. Leishman (Crystal S.) 2, Sister B. Shaw (Crystal S. 3. Grade 3: Boys—Bro. J. Milnes (Crystal S.) 1. Girls—Sister A. Rolinson (Crystal S.) 1, Sister F. Scott (Hope of Valley) 2, Sister A. Dagger (Hope of Valley) 3. Grade 4: Boys—Bro. J. Woods (Hope of Valley). Girls—Sister B. Gibbs (Hope of Valley) 1, Sister R. Fleury (Primrose Tent) 2. Sister W. Johnston (Primrose Tent) 3. Singing.—Grade 2: Boys—Bro. A. Graves (Rising Star) 1, Bro. B. Healey (Crystal S ) 2. Girls—Sister N. Graves (Rising Star) 1. Sister J. Taylor (Rising Star) 2. Grade 3: Boys—Bro. J. Milnes (Crystal S ) Girls—Sister Y. Sutherland (Rising Star) I. Sister E Fail (Rising Star)' 2, Sister B Gibbs (Hope of Valley) 3. Grade 4: Girls—Sister R. Fleury (Primrose Tent) 1, Sister W Johnston (Primrose Tent) 2. The Otago Provincial Council s annual meeting followed, which was adjourned at a late hour until November 9. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows; —P.C.R., Sis. M. Asher; P D R. Bro R Watson: P. Sec. and Treas., Sis. E. K. Gain: - P. Lev.. Bro. W. Fyfe; P. Guard, Bro P Nixon; P.S.J.T., Bro. A. T. Mclndoe; P. Editress, Sis. A. R. Gain. Bro. R Graves is now the immediate Past Prov. C.R. Special mention was made of Bro. Mclndoe’s splendid services as secretary and treasurer of the council for a number of years, and on his retirement from this office he was accorded heartfelt thanks for his enterprising and strenuous work. Other meetings were held on October 9, at the Embassy Salon, and October 16, at the Miller street Hall. At the former, the distinguished visitor was Bro. G. Skipworth, District Chief Ruler, who received a good hearing from the combined tent gathering A sport's tournament followed this important occasion. At the latter the Hope of Dunedin Tent met the Sobriety Tent in an indoor bowling fix(ure, (he “ Hope ” securing the victory. The next meeting of the 1.0. R.. will take olace at (he Hope of Dunedin Tent today, when a “ 500 ” tournament will follow the business meeting
