NATIVE LAND COURT

SITTINGS CONTINUED The sittings of the Native Land Court were continued yesterday before Judge Shepherd, several minor matters being dealt with. An application by Jean Mary Kaahu for succession to Rlria Paaka in a deceased estate at the Otago Heads was granted, and the rehearing of an application under section 28 of the Native Land Act. 1931, by Te Iwi Ellison to succeed to Riria Potiki was also heard, another name being added. An application to cancel a succession order to Louisa Orbell (deceased), and to cancel a subsequent succession order to Milton Percy Orbell (deceased), was not concluded, the case being adjourned until Tuesday. The application of John M. Ellison for an investigation of title to land on the old Telegraph Office site was withdrawn on Thursday, but it was subsequently decided that the Crown should state its case. The Crown Solicitor (Mr H. H. Cornish) gave the Crown’s answer to the application, holding that the land was Crown land, and that the application was therefore misconceived as the court h-’ no jurisdiction.—At this stage the case was adjourned'until January 30. 1940.
