WAIHEMO COUNTY
COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Waihemo County Council was held yesterday, there being present Crs W. Ritchie (in the chair), G. Ross, D. Ross, W. Matheson, A. Purvis, J. O’Connell, D. J. Ireland, H. S. Sheat and A. T. Peddle. Finance The annual balance sheet was put before the meeting and approved. Accounts amounting to £1285 15s 7d were passed for payment. General The ranger’s report was read and adopted. Circulars were received from Government departments concerning the emergency precautions scheme, patriotic purposes regulations and vegetable production plan. Foreman’s Report The county foreman reported as follows on the work carried out during the month:— Blue Mountain Riding.—The foot planks have been put on the different crossings, and Jones’s crossing has been filled in The bottom end of the switchback road, which has been extremely rough, has been graded with the power grader. The small bridge near Wedge’s has been repaired. Meadowbank Riding.—Gravel has been spread on the top end of the Taleri Peak road on some of the worst sections. The back road up to Spillane’s requires grading. Bushey Riding.—Potholes on the Shag Point road have been filled In, and the road now requires grading. A culvert on this road should be renewed. Miller’s lane and the Bushey Homestead road require grading. Goodwood Riding.—The Goodwood road is badly cut up in places and requires gravel. A ditch on McLaren’s Flat was cleared out. and an under-runner on H Wright's road was filled In. Dunback Riding.—Ritchie’s road has been graded with the power grader, and gravel has been spread on some of the worst places. Two days’ gravelling was done on the Stoneburn road, which will be graded as soon as possible. Sweetwater road was graded with the power grader. Green Valley Riding.—Pringle’s and J Freeland’s roads have been graded with the power grader. There is a culvert at the bottom end of Pringle’s road which requires renewing. Macrae’s Riding.—General surface work has been done in this riding, and the roads require grading. \ HIGHWAYS Palmerston-Bushey Highway. Tills highway is in fair order. A broken plank on the Shag River bridge was replaced. Palmerston - Queenstown Highway This highway was graded twice during the month with the power grader Dunback-Macrae’s highway.—This highway was graded with the power grader up to the end of the Nenthorn road, and a few loads of gravel were spread on the bottom end. A few chains at the foot of Sailor’s Cutting need to be made up on the lower side before gravel is put on The report was adopted.
