LONG ISLAND AIRPORT
«,_ BUILT ON REFUSE DUMP DEDICATION CEREMONY (United Press Association) (By Electric Telesrahp—Cop.vrurht) NEW YORK, Oct. 15. (Received Oct. 16, at 11.30 p.m.) The Mayor, Mr La Guardia, dedicated 558 acres on North Beach, Long Island, six miles from the centre of New York, as a municipal airport. It was built on a refuse du»p and cost between 40,000,000 and 45.000,000 dollars. The airport includes a marine base, a land plane base, four runways (the longest 6000 feet), a control tower and a beacon with 13,500 candle power.
