WOMEN'S CLUB MUSICAL CIRCLE

ANNUAL MEETING The Music Circle of the Otago Women's Club held its annual meeting on Friday last. Mrs Wakefield Holmes presided, and the election of officebearers took place as follows: —Chairwoman. Miss Emilee Logie; vice-chair-woman. Mrs L. Beaumont; secretary. Miss M. Sawers: committer—Mesdames N. Ellis, E. Miller. G. H. Elliffe. P. Dick and Misses Meda Paine. N. Garland and S. Bayley. The annual meeting was followed by an inspiring talk by Miss Mary Martin, entitled "The Place of Music in Life," howing the contrast between the musical life of the people in the early sixteenth century and the present day. when the art of self-exi-"-ession is lost to many ber-ancp of radio. The following programme was pre-sented:—Songs--"Dashing Away With the Smoothing Iron" (Early English) and " Bless My Brooms " (Harold Crayton) —Mrs Focken. accompanied by Mrs P. Dick; songs—" The Milking Croon," "The Jura Harvesting Lilt," "Pulling the Sea Dulse" and 'The Cockle Gatherers" (Mrs Kennedy Fraser)— Mrs N. Ellis, accompanied by Mrs Elliffe; piano solo, " Waltz in E Minor " (Chopin). Mrs A. de Beer; songs—" The Violet" and "Autumn " (Mallinson), and "The Nightingale" (Alabieff) Mrs Laurenson. accompanied by Mrs P. Dick. Miss A. Duthie, on behalf of members, moved a hearty vote of thanks to Miss Martin and the performers for an interesting evening.
