BEEF AND MUTTON

ADJUSTMENT OF PRICES STATEMENT BY MR PICOT (Per United Press Association; AUCKLAND, Oct. 16. The adjustment of beef and mutton prices by the Auckland butchers had the approval of the Price Investigation Tribunal, said Mr F. R. Picot, when interviewed at Auckland to-day. He said he wanted to rectify the impression conveyed by the statement' given by the Auckland master butchers that the increase in the retail rates of beef and mutton was being made without the knowledge of the Government. He said that such an arbitrary action would be both unnecessary and illegal, and would have led to the Auckland butchers being prosecuted. Special consideration was given by the Price Investigation Tribunal to the circumstances obtaining in Auckland, where the retail prices had not followed the rise in the wholesale market.
