CANADIAN “ACE” REAPPEARS

One of Canada’s most famous Great War aviators, Lieutenant-colonel W. A. Bishop, V.C., D. 5.0., M.C., who was officially credited with bringing down 72 German planes as well as leading a squadron which earned the reputation of having “ the highest percentage of flying nerve on the Western Front, each member having brought down at least 10 Germans, has taken up an appointment in the Royal Canadian Air Force with the rank of Commodore. Bishop was only 21 years of age and a captain when he carried out his daring feats in France, which resulted in the Germans putting a price on his head. He gained the V.C.. for an astounding feat in bringing down five German planes single-handed. In addition he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and the Croix de Guerre, and was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. By the end ot the war he had risen to the rank of lieu-tenant-colonel. He wrote three books. Winged Warfare” ‘‘Hunting the Huns in the Air.” and “The Flying Squad." He is at present a director of Dominion Skyways, Ltd. and of other companies in Canada.
