BAPTIST CHURCH CHOIRS
MUSICAL FESTIVAL Although the Assembly meetings of the Baptist Union of New Zealand were cancelled, the musical festival which was to have been held In connection with them took place in the Hanover Street Baptist Church on Saturday evening. . , A large and appreciative audience enjoyed the following programmer— Anthems, “And the Glory” (Messiah), “Thanks Be to God" (Elijah), choir; solos, “ Just for To-day,” “ Vanguards,” Mr John Leech; , anthem, “Brother James’s Air,’ choir; recitations,” Miss Norma Brown; anthem, “Glory” (Mozart), choir: trio. “Consecration ” (Jude). “Celtic Lullaby Mrs Voller and Misses Rita and Millie Shrimpton; anthem,- "At the Name of Jesus” (Vaughan Williams), choir; recitatives and solo, “ Is Not; His Word Like a Fire?” (Elijah), Mr A, J. H. Jeavons; anthem, "A Prayer” (Handel's Largo), choir; sdlos, Praise Ye the Lord,” “The,Lord is My Light and My Salvation,” Miss Mary Pratt; anthem, " Bridgebuilders, Mr John Leech and choir; cornet! solos, Master Christensen: solos, “Hear Ye, Israel” (Elijah) , “How, Beautiful are the Feet" (Messiah), Miss Doris Wilson; ’cello solos, Mr Alec Blythe; anthem, “ Hallelujah Chorus ” (Messiah), choir. The president of the -local Baptist Auxiliary (the Rev. J, Ewan Simpson) thanked the conductor (Mr H. P. Desmoulins), the choir and the assisting artists, and congratulated them on having carried .on with the festival, which proved to be so successful. The accompanists were Mesdames Erne*! Drake and J. T. Leech.
