WAR AND CHRISTIAN BELIEF
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —I notice a letter by a would-be pacifist condemning Bishop Fitchett’s very fine address to Synod. T have never met a pacifist yet who was not a pretty selfish individual. Pacifists virtually argue that ills cannot happen to them and they need not forego any material comforts. lam not saying Mr Crozier has not given up some luxuries, but his arguments are too weak. I want to ask this: Mr Crozier and his people might be sitting comfortably in front of a cosy fire. The, door opens and Germans come in, seize him, . torture his wife, and leave her lying helpless in a building which they bomb. Would he still be a pacifist? I can give him a few facts about torture inflicted, by Germans, witnessed and endured by myself. Christ drove the. money-changers out of .the temple for defrauding. What would He do to the slayers of women, children, and hospital patients?. I am tired of hypocrisy.—l am, etc., Deeds.
