AUCKLAND SHOP ASSISTANTS' PLAN FUNCTION IN EMERGENCIES (Per United Press Association; AUCKLAND, Oct. 4. With a donation of £750 from its funds, the Auckland Retail Shop Assistants' Union decided at a meeting to-night to form its own national service unit. After appropriate training this unit will operate in all emergencies during working hours throughout every department store and small shop in congested business areas in the city. Members are to receive instruction in first aid work and emergency precautions. It was announced that the Employers' Association had endorsed the proposal, which included the appointment of fully-qualified trainees as wardens in their respective stores or buildings.
