LADIES* DAY AT RANDWICK HIGH CASTE WINS CRAVEN PLATE GIMCRACK STAKES TO TRUENESS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY. Oct. 4 (Received Oct. •», at 11.55 p.m.) ladies' Day at Randwick to-day was favoured with fine weather, although a shower of rain fell before the first race. The course was in splendid order and the racing was most interesting. The Gimcrack Stakes, foi Allies, in which 22 started, provided a dazzling finish between Trueness and Dark Elegance The former triumphed by half a head. New Zealand had no actual representative Olympus was withdrawn from the Suburban Handicap, which the consistent Newcastle gelding Red Thespian won narrowly from Bramol. The Craven Plate was won brilliantly by High Caste, who had Beau Vlte's measure at the home turn The winner simply outclassed his rivals, although Beau Vite ran a game race. Gold Rod was a complete disappointment. Moorsotis again showed no dash, 'and finished a poor sixth in the Members' Handicap. The attendance to-day was 23,000, compared, with 27,000 last year. The spring meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club will be opened at Hastings to-morrow and concluded on Saturday Good acceptances have been received for the first day's racing, and, though most of the runners will be local horses, there are a few visitors to increase the interest. The weather in Hawke's Bay has been brilliantly fine, and the going will be in excellent order and fast. Tomorrow's feature is the re-establishment of the race for the Hawke's Bay Stakes, in which nine two-year-olds are engaged Betting will be single pool, and the following horses may be supported in their engagements:— Hollycombe Hurdles.—Fossicker and Lady Stella.
