TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel FIXTURES October 7.—New Brighton T.C. October 12, 14.-Manawatu T.C (if further permit available). October 21 23.—Greymouth r:c ' October 21, 23 or 25.—Auckland T.C October 23—Oamaru T.C

Oamaru Meeting Nominations for the Oamaru Trotting Club' meeting are due on Monday next. Interesting Race At New Brighton on Saturday Gallant Chief, Three Tens, and Sir Julien are booked to make part of the field for the New Brighton Stakes, of. £SOO. The result may settle the question of three-year-old supremacy. Trotting Cup It is the announced intention of the Metropolitan Trotting Club to reduce the field in the Trotting Cup to thirteen Twenty-one horses have been entered, and after allowance is made for casualties It appears that the committee will be called upon to exclude some of the pacers nomln ated. That will be a ticklish problem and as likely as not will land the selectors in an awkward position before the meeting concludes. - Inquisition Mr A. E. Wilson has disposed of Inquisition to a patron of A. Holmes's stable By Wrack—Mambrlno's Last, Inquisition has not performed up to expectations although he has shown extreme speed in his races. He is a brother to Mohican who, originally a pacer, was converted by Holmes to win several races as an unhoppled trotter. Many of the Wrack breed are double-gaited, and possibly Holmes will make an experiment with the big pacer, Inquisition. Important Purchase The Waikato sportsman, Mr Wilfred Johnstone, on his recent visit to Australia, purchased Play Globe, an aged son of Globe Derby, who as a sire was responsible for practically all the champions of recent years In the Commonwealth. There has been no strain to equal the " Derby " strain, but, unfortunately, Globe Derby died some time back. However, he left sons to carry on, and among the number are Walla Walla, Van Derby, Logan Derby and Robert Derby. In securing Play Globe, Mr Johnstone will introduce a new strain into his stock at Tamahere, where he has a number of good and proved mareu. Play Globe did very little racing. He was put to the stud early, and has sired winners, Including Globe Pick, which has a mile record of 2min Usee, and a mile and a-half record of 3min 21sec; Western Globe, with a -Tasmanlan record of 2min Usee,, and Pay Huon, with records of 2mln HJsee and 3min 21sec. Mr Johnstone also purchased a two-year-old colt by Robert Derby. He should' worthily uphold the " Derby " tradition when the time comes for him to race. New Zealand Cup Y The handicaps of the Australian pacers Lawn Derby and Our Globe have been withheld, and while Lawn Derby is certain to be on the back mark, there may be some difficulty in making an assessment for Our Globe because his most recent form is not known. The conditions governing eligibility for the New Zealand Cup decree that "no nominations will be received of horses whose assessed marks are lmin 27sec or- slower." This rule may only apply to New Zealand horses, says the Press, but if the handicaps issued for the Pacers' Cup, which was to have been run at Melbourne on September 25, can be taken as a guide, then Our Globe cannot be considered as a starter, in this race of one mile and a-half, the basis was a rate of 2min 18sec to the mile, or. under the handicapping system, 3min 29sec for a mile and a-half, and 4min 42sec for two miles. There is a big difference between this class and the New Zealand Cup. In this race Our Globe was handicapped on scratch. Barney Doolan on 24yds, Logan Derby on 84yds, and Lawn Derby on 120yds behind scratch. In the New Zealand Cup Lawn Derby will not be asked to concede Our Globe more than 48yds. Even a win in the Pacers' Cup could hardly bring Our Globe back to 4min 27sec. He won two divisions of the Interdominion Championships decided in Tasmania, but then earned a six months' disqualification. His best time was 3min 22Jsec for one mile and a-half
