Borough Council The monthly meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr W. Bringans) presiding over Crs W. Hewitt, A. C. H. Parsons, E. Marslin, E. Russell, T. G. Tliow, A. McKellar, R. S. Kinnaird and A. E. Ellis. The Alexandra branch of the Plunket Society wrote asking the council for a grant to their funds. —It was decided to make a grant of £5 ss, with an additional £ 22s to the car fund account. Mr W, A. Bodkin, M.P., wrote in connection with the proposed Manorburn Domain, and stating that he would be in Alexandra shortly and would arrange a meeting with the council and the various bodies concerned to decide on the boundaries of the proposed reserve. Messrs Bodkin and Sunderland wrote in connection with a lease of the propertied the late Mr John Magnus, and asking the council to grant a transfer to another tenant..—The council agreed to transfer the lease provided it entailed no mortgage being left on the property. The Municipal Association, the Dunedin Emergency Precautions Committee and the Department of Internal. The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a circular memorandum in connection with the distribution of war funds.—Received. The Department of Labour wrote in connection with the scheme to transfer scheme 13 men to farm development work and also for the growing of vegetables suitable for export.—Councillors expressed the opinion that (he best way to help the scheme would be to transfer the men to the farmers in the district, as they felt that anything in the way of a municipal hardening scheme would be doomed to failure, and they d?cided to write to the department and request it to consider this proposal. The Social Security Department wrote asking the council to employ three men under scheme 13. transferred from work finished on the Vincent County Council scheme. , , Mr R. J. Barton wrote asking for pe - mission to erect two tents in the borough. —Permission was granted for a period of six months. The chairman of the Reserves Committee reported on interviewing the Lawn Tennis Club regarding the condition of its courts. He explained that the courts were in a bad condition, and the expert had advised that the best way to fix them would be to lift one court up and relay it properly as a trial before proceeding 'with the others.-This was Pureed to. and the Reserves Committee rnd the Mavor and the chairman of the Finance Committee were authorised to go ahead with the work. Accounts totalling £397 8s Id were passed for payment. Personal Mr A. Burt, of Lawrence, has arrived in Alexandra as representative of Thomas Borthwick and Sons, to take over the Alexandra Freezing Works. Mr Thomas, insnector for the National Bank of New Zealand, is at present visiting the Alexandra branch.
