SHORT YARDINGS FORWARD

GENERAL RISE IN VALUES An entry of about 200 fat cattle included three trucks of extra prime heavy bullocks, while the general quality of the yarding was much better than recent markets. The entry comprised mostly bullocks, only a few cows and heifers being forward. Competition was very good, and all classes showed an appreciation in values, particularly heavy bullocks. Cows, however did not show the same rise. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £27 17s 6d, prime £l9 17s 6d to £23 2s 6d, medium £l4 12s 6d to £l6 17s 6d, light to £lO 17s 6d, extra prime cows and heifers to £l9 2s 6d, prime £l3 7s 6d to £l4 2s 6d, medium £lO 17s 6d to £l2 2s 6d, light to £6 17s 6d. A yarding of 900 fat sheep was forward the bulk being wethers, while there was a large number of extra good quality lines. On account of lack of supplies, all classes showed an appreciation on the values ruling at the last market. Lighter classes received the most attention. Show wethers realised to 38s, prime heavy wethers 39s to 425, medium 32s 9d to 34s 9d, light to 27s 6d. About a dozen spring lambs were entered and these brought from 16s 6d to 31s 6d a head. A small entry of fat cattle comprising mostly two and three-year-old 6teers was offered. Everything penned sold at famine prices—fully £1 a head dearer than former rates. Two small pens of three-year-olds brought £lO and £lO 5s a head, while two-year-olds brought from £8 2s 6d to £9 7s 6d a head, and 18-months-old sorts from £4 5s to £5 10s. Boner cows were in short supply and sold at an advance of £1 per head. Porkers and baconers were in short supply in an entry totalling 101 fat pigs, and there was a very good demand. Porkers sold at from £2 15s to £3 13s a head, or about B£d to 9d a lb, while baconers brought from £4 5s to £5 6s a head or about 8d a lb. There were 74 stores forward.
