WAR SERVICE

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—l have just read Mr Downie Stewart's article in which he claims that conscription for overseas service is democratic. If the electors of New Zealand has ever given any Government authority to engage in a war they knew nothing at all about it, as in the present case, less than nothing. Considering the conflicting statements that have been made about our friend the enemy, then Mr Stewart's article would be logical. As it stands at present it rests on false premises, and is but a piece of clever special pleading.—l am, etc.. Interested.
