BALCLUTHA Balclutha Cricket Club The annual meeting of the Balclutha Cricket Club was well attended. Mr A. K. Baxter was in the chair. The balance sheet showed that there had been a loss of £1 9s lid on the year's working. The club started the season with a debit of £24 lis Bd, .and .finished with a debit of £26 is 7d. Opening day was fixed for October 14, and practice nights on Tuesday and Thursday. It was decided to enter two teams in the South Otago competitions. Leaving for Camp Of those men who have enlisted at Balclutha for the special force, and have been passed as fit, the first three to leave for Burnham camp will be Messrs Douglas Boyle, Ralph Willocks, and Stan Shirley. Obituary Mrs Florence Finn, who died on Sunday night following an operation, at the age of 58, was well and favourably known in Balclutha, where she conducted a private boarding house for many years. She was the widow of Mr J. A Finn, who was a son of Mr John Finn, one of the earliest settlers in the town of Balclutha. The deceased leaves a family of threeMrs Stubley (Dunedin), Mr F. J. Toko Lawn Tennis Club The annual meeting of the Toko Lawn Tennis Club was fairly well attended, the retiring president (Mr D. J. Sumpter) occupying the chair. Four new members were elected Mr Sumpter.was re-elected president, Messrs I. F. Thomson and T. B. Lockhart vice-presidents, Mr J. H. Ransome secretary,. Mr Thomson treasurer, and Messrs Sumpter and J. B. Gray delegates to the South Otago Lawn Tennis Association. The General Committee elected comprises of Mrs J. Murray, Misses R. Wilson and A. Vorrath, Messrs T. Bedford and J. B. Gray. Mesdames J. B. Gray, Murray, J. Martin and W. George and Miss G. Coombe were elected cs Social Committee. Opening day was fixed for Saturday. Personal Miss I. Riddel], who has been acting as assistant on the staff of the Toko High School, has received notification, of her appointment to a position at Musselburgh, and will take up her new 'duties on November 1. Miss J. M. Patrick, who has just completed her training at Dunedin. has been appointed Plunket nurse at Milton, in place of Nurse H S. Graham. Some months ago Nurse Graham retired after several years' service at Milton, but was recalled because illness in the family of Nurse Templeton, the newly-anoointed nurse, prevented her from taking up duty. ;;V Resignation of Mayor ;•/._.'.'. Mr D. M. Mawson, who has been Mayor of Milton for four frears and a-half, has resigned because of continued ill-h»alth. following a fall some months ago. Nomi-. nations to fill the vacancy have been called for. Painful Accident An accident which resulted in a badly lacerated right thumb was suffered by Mr R. J. Wilson while acting' in the revue " Pleasure Bound" on Monday night. While firing dummy bullets from a gun during the course of a sketch, Mr Wilson had a large hole blown in his thumb, which necessitated medical attention
