After many years’ service the pendulum clock in the courtroom at the Hastings Courthouse has been replaced by a modern, electric timepiece. When it was first installed, the pendulum clock disturbed the serenitv of the court by its noisy striking, but this was silenced by adjustine the mechanism and “ spiking ’’ the keyhole for the striking spring After recording the passing of the hours over a period of years in which it ticked off the minutes of many a dry-as-dust case, the clock became erratic and its former reputation for a good timekeeper was lost in response to an application by the clerk of the court for a new timepiece the electric clock was forwarded, with instructions that the old clock be destroyed
