MILITARY SERVICE
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Since the outbreak of hostilities certain individuals seem to be using the war to attack the Government, and workers by letters to the press trying to use the war as a lever .to abolish the 40-hour week and workers’ conditions in general. The suggestion is put forward that carpenters should be put on soldiers’ pay etc. Well if this is good enough for tradesmen and workers, why not everyone—business people farmers and everyone else? The trouble is that many of these people expected to get away with the haul that their type raked off during the last war, but let me warn these ultra-patriotic individuals that they will know before this war is over what Socialism means in war time.—l am. etc.. Returned Soldier Goodwood, September 19.
