AMATEUR ATHLETICS

OTAGO CENTRE'S MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, the president (Mr C. W. Clark) occupying the chair. The chairman referred to the loss suffered by Mr W. N. Connell in the death of his mother. The meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect. The chairman congratulated F. Sanders (Mornington) on winning the Port Road Race, and A. R. Geddes (Civil Service) on gaining fastest time. He also extended the centre’s congratulations to R. A. Wilson (Mornington) and G L. Austin (Caversham), who gained first place and fastest time respectively in the Modified Marathon. The chairman referred to the fact that the Mornington Club had won the Nickels Cup for the best aggregate in the two races. It was decided to ask the New Zealand Council if it would approve of attempts on the 10 and 20-mile records on the banked track at the Caledonian Ground. It was decided to hold the centre’s annual meeting on October 17.
