Bringans were entertained at a social in Warepa Hall, when nearly every household in the district was represented. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with musical items. During an interval the chairman (Mr W. Benson) in a brief speech eulogised the departing guests, and presented them with a roll of notes, Mrs Bringans with a travelling rug and Mr Bringans with a case of pipes, and wished them every happiness in their retirement at Alexandra, where they intend to reside. Mrs T. P. Stewart, president of the Warepa Women's Institute and the P.W.M.U., spoke on behalf of the women of the district, and presented Mrs Bringans with a bouquet. Mr A. Ross endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers, and the Rev. T. McDonald also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr and Mrs Bringans, who in replying expressed regret at leaving and appreciation of the many kind friends thev were leaving behind. Those contributing to the musical programme were Mrs E. Hughes (songs), Miss G. Cross (elocutionary items), Mr R. Hay (songs), Mr L. Copland (bagpipe selections). Mrs O. M. Cross was the accompanist. The music for ths dance was provided by Misses E. Mercer and A. Dovey, Mr B. Bassett (piano), Mr A. Copland (piano accordion), Mr L. Copland (bagpipes). Mr R. McKerrow made an efficient M.C. A happy function concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Flooding at Paretai The flood blockage at Paretai still continues and several hundred acres are affected. It is believed that the water has backed up in consequence of a blockage at the mouth of the Koau branch of the Molyneux, causing the Puerua to overflow its banks and spread over the lower portion of the Otanomomo settlement. The low state of the Molyneux revealed a huge sandbank blocking the Koau mouth, and it is said that a man on horseback nearly succeeded in crossing what was formerly a wide sheet of water. O'Keefe, local officer of the Army, officiated as chairman, and the bulk of the programme was contributed by the Milton Municipal Brass Band, augmented for the occasion by five members of the Balclutha Band. The audience sang " Glory Song," and the chairman offered up a short prayer.
