FOURTEEN KILLED
FLYING BOAT DESTROYED COLLISION WITH DREDGER LANDING IN SEMI-DARKNESS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 13. (Received Aug. 14, at 10.30 p.m.) Fourteen people were killed when a Pan-American flying boat struck a submerged dredger while landing in semi-darkness. It broke into three pieces and caught fire. Ten bodies have been recovered and two are believed to be in the sunken wreckage. The survivors' injuries are believed to be of a minor nature. The dead include the pilot, A. G. Person, a veteran of 1,000,000 miles of flying transport planes, the copilot, George King, who was recently transferred from the transpacific service, and a Yale University professor.
