THE PORT BOWEN
POUNDED BY SEAS SALVAGE OPERATIONS PROCEEDING (Per United Press Association; WANGANUI, Aug. 12. During a heavy sea and a strong westerly yesterday, the three heavy steel cables run from the Port Bowen to the shore snapped, and the bow of the steamer moved outward into deeper water. The vessel appears to be firm in the sand amidships, but those engaged in salvage operations consider that with the bow heading seaward the steamer is in a more favourable position for hauling off. In the meantime she is being well pounded by heavy seas.
