DAVIS CUP MATCH

PACIFIC ZONE FINAL AUSTRALIANS WIN DOUBLES CUBANS OUTCLASSED (United Press Association) 'By Electric Telegif.ph—Copyright) SEABRIGHT, Aug. 11. Quist and Bromwich (Australia) defeated Morales and Nodarse .(Cuba) 6—l, 6—o, 6—3. The Australians clearly outclassed the Cubans. Although the games frequently went to deuce before being pulled out, this was due chiefly to Bromwich's inability to hit his stride. He put them out and netted too often, forcing Quist, who was in his best form, to carry the brunt. The Cubans, who are just average players without any outstanding strokes, seemed to have no plan of attack, scoring almost entirely on the Australians' errors. In the first set Morales held the service in the first game, but the Australians took the rest . fairly easily, although five went to deuce. Quist made the majority of the points. The Australians lost only 7 points in the last five games in the second set. Bromwich was erratic at the net, but Quist was smashing well. The Cubans rallied in the third set, but a break came in the sixth game when Bromwich woke up and blasted two beautiful two-handers for placements to break Morales's service.

Hopman told the Australian Associated Press: "I am glad we are a step nearer the cup. Now we can get down to serious training for the Jugoslav boys. We need more firstclass competition." Nodarse commented: "The Australians were too good for us, but Bromwich will have to improve his overhead strokes if Australia expects to win the cup. They were too weak to-day."

THE REMAINING SINGLES

BOTH WON BY AUSTRALIA

SEABRIGHT, Aug. 12. (Received Aug. 13, at 8 p.m.) Bromwich beat Morales B—6,8 —6, B—6, 6—l.

Quist beat Aguero 6—l, 6—o, 6—o. Quist, playing at the peak of his form, needed only 35 minutes to rout Aguero. Quist's deep returns of the Cuban's weak backhand carried him to the net for smashing kills and placements.

Bromwich played his worst tennis since his arrival in America. His demeanour was listless and he failed to anticipate returns, being constantly a step behind. He missed nearly all overhead shots and many volleys. Morales was steady and employed a chop stroke. He had Bromwich often out of position, but his game lacked the fire and power to overcome the Australian, even at the latter's worst. Bromwich doublefaulted five times. JUGOSLAVIAN TEAM NO DANGER OF DEFAULT NEW YORK, Aug. 11. The United States Lawn Tennis Association has received a cable that the Jugoslavian team is coming to the United States next week, which ends the fears of its defaulting due to lack of funds to make the trip. THE RYE TOURNAMENT •a MISS STAMMERS BEATEN RYE, Aug. 11. Mrs Fabyan defeated Miss Stammers 6—l, 6—2 in amazingly easy fashion. She stunned the gallery of nearly 1000, who saw the British player suffer the most lopsided defeat ever inflicted in an international competition. Miss Stammers attempted to come to the net repeatedly, but Mrs Fabyan stopped her with lobs and passing shots. Miss Marble defeated. Mme Mathieu 6—3, 7—5. These results assure an all-Ameri-can final.
