NESS CUP MORNINGTON RUNNER SUCCESSFUL Thirty runners faced the starter in the race for the Ness Cup. which was held on the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon, the Mornington runner E. Lundquist scoring a win by two ygrds from L. Bradshaw of Civil Service Club, while another Morning ton man. W Burrows was third. The winner's time was 4min 34 3-ssec, which, considering that the track was heavy and that for part of the journey the' competitors had to run into a fresh south-westerly breeze was a fairb good performance.

N. Taylor went to the front at the start, followed by Lundquist. Smith Dickel and Romeril Smith assumed the lead early in the second lap with Lundquist closely following him ana Romeril and Patterson handv Bradshaw went to the front halfwav through the third lap. with Patterson well Placed, and at the bell the lattei went out in front Lundquist wa? lying handy at this stage with Burrows some distance back Smith recaptured his lead before entering the back stretch, but Lundquist nuns on well, and running easily passed him entering the straight to win by two yards. UNIVERSITY CLUB A good muster turned out for the University Club's run from the University buildings on Saturday The team, under Dorman (captain) kept together, and had a fast non-stop run through the reservoir and across good country to Wakari. returning to the University by way of Cosy Dell. The slow pack ran round the reservoir, thence across country, rejoining the road in Leith Valley. A fast pace was maintained to the University. In a close finish Griffin led. followed bv Coatsworth and Patrick. MORNINGTON CLUB The weekly run of the Mornington Harriers was held, from Kensington School on Saturday Before the race started thev had the pleasure of congratulating Eric Lundquist for winning the Ness Cup. and W Burrows who. off 75yds, ran an outstanding race to finish third. The fast pack under F W Crooke (captain) proceeded along Anderson's Bay road to Portobello road, which was followed to Macandrew Bay and back. C. L. Moore and W. Gardiner went well throughout, and with Crooke (captain) were first home The slow pack., under Everett (captain), proceeded along the Bay road to Portobello road, which was followed to the Anderson's Bay bridge after which the pack turned to. the right. The roads were then taken to Waverley Boys' Home, from which a non-stop run was held home A brisk finish resulted in A. Thornicraft heading, off J. Marett with S. Templeton in third position. CAVERSHAM CLUB Thirty-nine members of the Caversham Club took part in the weekly run, which commenced from the George Street School 'on Saturday. -Fifteen of the runners travelled from there by conveyances to Port Chalmers, whence they had a good training run bade to the school. The colts' pack had an enjoyable run to the Logan Point quarry, down to North-East Valley, and home via the main road. J. McGregor was first in followed by D. Clark and D. Mercer. Under the whistle of S. J. Bartlett a pack comprised of the.rest of those who turned out, had an interestme. run. The fact that the members of the winning team in the recent Otago junior cross-country race were amongst those taking part, helped the pace along. The trail led up Leith Valley to Ross Cresk on to the Wakari road, which was followed to Bunting's, store. The home trail led down Taieri road and over the hills back to George street. R. F. Morrison and L, McM. Gerrie headed the rest in a fast sprint. BAPTIST CLUB The Baptist Club's annual Five Mile championship and sealed handicap was run at St. Kilda on Saturday under good conditions, except for a cold southerly breeze. Starting from Onslow House, the course led up Tahuna road, thence via Crest street, Cavell street Gilfillan street and Queen's drive, into Victoria road, as far as the St. Clair tennis courts. Turning into Lovers lane, the trail led to the Andersons Bay Cemetery gates. The-road was followed round the back of the cemetery, turning into Minto street, where the trail branched off down a paddock into Gresham street, to lead on to the new road, thence via Cavell street and others to finish with a. 100 yards straight up the Queen's drive at Onslow House. , , . All the members were present, and after Mr H. Hayward (starter) had sent them away, H. Campbell went to the front, closely followed by five others. Turning off Queen's drive. H. Campbell and J Stewart were leading V. Campbell and H. Benfell by two yards. All were running strongly. After passing the tennis courts and turning into " Lover's lane," J. Stewart forced his way to the front to lead H. Campbell by five yards, followed by H. Benfeh and V. Campbell, who began to fall back a little J Stewart held his lead to the cemetery gates, where H. Campbell caught him again, and both were running strongly as they turned from Minto street to cross the paddock. When these were at the bottom, H. Benfell came over the top, V. Campbell being a similar distance further back. These positions were maintained until, turning into the Queen's drive, J Stewart again pushed ahead to finish 10 yards in front of H. Campbell, H. LEITH CLUB

The first Leith Harriers Club sports meeting was held at Forbury Park, the events decided neing the 440 Yards, One Mile, Hop Step, and Jump, and Broad Jump. As the course proper was too sticky the inside grass track was used and although firm, it was wet. The meeting was controlled by Messrs T. E. Dorman and J. Pascoe. with Mr A. J Dryden the starter The results were:—One Mile: J Dickey (110yds) 1, F. Hodge (35yds) 2 J Nicholl (150yds) 3 440 Yards C. Blackledge (40yds) i, B. A. Timms (37yds) 2. J. Dickey (45yds) 3 Hop, Step, and Jump: B. A. Timms (9in) 1, N Jefferson (2ft 6in) 2, F Hodge scr) 3. The best jump was done by F. Hodge, who jumped 35ft 4Jin. Broad Jump: B. A. Timms (Ift) I, N.
