Weller (West Coast, N. 1.) established a lead over W. A. C. Pullar (Wellington), and was never headed at any part of the national cross-country championships at Havelock North on Saturday afternoon. Weller won the event for the fourth consecutive time. With half a mile covered Weller led
Pullar by three yards. He increased this advantage throughout the six miles and a-quarter contest, to win by approximately 75 yards. In the latter stages the race developed into a duel between the leaders, Weller gaining the advantage on open country and Pullar making up ground on the road. As the contest progressed, Weller and Pullar drew away from the field, and at the finish they were more than 200 yards ahead of any of the other runners.
