GAMES J. Boyles, Australian champion, forced a neat, unexpected twist into a weatherbeaten line In the following practice game against G. W. Trevaskis at the Central Draughts Club Melbourne: GAME No. 749.—“ Dundee,’’ 21 17

Boyles (White) played 6 9, 22 18, 13 17. 26 22, 17 26, 31 22, 8 11, 24 19, 4 8, 19 15, 11 16, 22 17. 9 13. 28 24. etc. Drawn. (c) Both sides are fairly equal, yet in tournament play White has subsequently received many hard knocks. (d) Durgin’s “ Single Corner “ and " Switcher" book, 1894, brings the position up from the “ Single Corner " opening thus:

The following play, contributed to "Our Checker Pk.yer ” by C. H. Smith, of London, is an extract from a lengthy analysis published in the Nottingham Guardian (an obscure column) over 30 years ago by Mr Smith. However, it has never appeared in any of the standard works since published and is pi obably unknown: GAME No. 752.—“ Cross.”
