BOY SCOUTS

CONTINGENT FOR WELLINGTON LONDON, July 20. Great Britain will be represented at the International Scout Jamboree during the Centenary celebrations by a contingent of 25 boys from all parts of the United Kingdom. They expect to reach Auckland on December 13. They will be led by Mr P. B. Nevill, com-

missioner at the Boy Scouts’ headquarters for Kindred and other Societies. and a former commissioner for Rover Scouts.

Mr Nevill, who is 52, has oeen interested in Scouting for many years. It first attracted his notice in 1909, when he read a copy of “Scouting for Boys.” He was present at the first rally, held at the Crystal Palace that year, and he started the sth Enfield Troop, near London, in 1913, From then on he held various appointments. During the war, after he was rejected for military service, he 'held

positions in the .Ministry of Munitions, Inland Revenue, and the Air Ministry, he also kept up his interest in Scouting, and for a time was honorary warden of Roland House. He instituted the annual commemoration dav for the East and North-east London Scouts, and in 1918 he joined the Imperial Headquarters Council at the invitation of Lord Baden-Powell.

Mr Nevill had held his position of commissioner for Kindred and Other Societies since 1921. In this capacity he is in touch with Scouts who are also members of other societies, such

as Toe, H„ the Y.M.C.A., the British Legion, the St. Vincent de Paul Society,' the National Boys’ 'Club, and many others. . In addition to Scouting, Mr Nevill is greatly interested in - photography, and his kinematograph records of various jamborees are valuable as well-as being most entertaining. , ';v Applications are now being received from boys who wish to go to New Zealand, and it is expected that .the names of the contingent will . be nounced towards the end of this month. 1 ‘
