Twenty STOKERS are required for entry in October, 1939. Candidates for entry as Stokers should be between the ages of 18 and 22 on October 13, 1939. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 1, 1939. Twenty-eight SEAMEN BOYS are required for entry in October, 1939. Candidates for entry as Seamen Boys should be between the ages of 15 years 3 months and 16 years 3 months on October 20. 1939. Candidates within one month of these age limits may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 1, 1939. Twenty SHORT-SERVICE ORDINARY SEAMEN are required for entry in December, 1939. Candidates for entry should be between the ages of 17J and 23 on December 1, 1939. Service is for six years in the New Zealand Naval Forces and six years in the Reserve, with an option of transferring to continuous service if recommended. ENGINE ROOM ' ARTIFICER.—Six vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service; age limits for candidates applying during present year 192 to 24 years. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. ORDNANCE ARTIFICERS. Two vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service; age limits for candidates applying during the present year 19J to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen, with at least five years’ practical experience as Blacksmith. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. PAINTER.—One vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service; age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly eflicient workmen, with at least five years’ practical experience as Painter. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen, with at least five years’ practical experience as Joiner. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. SICK BERTH PROBATIONER.—One vacancy for 12 years’ Continuous service: age limits 18 to 22 years. Candidates arc required to possess a fair knowledge of arithmetic (simple money sums; weights and measures; demicals, proportion and percentages). Knowledge of dispensary is desirable but not essential. WRITER PROBATIONER OR BOY WRITER.—Two vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service for Writer Probationer; age limits 18 to 23; 12 years’ continuous service from age 18 for Boy Writer; age limits 16 to 18 years.
