“LADIES DAY” IN COURT

TRAFFIC OFFENCES ACTION HANDSOME POLICE PROSECUTOR (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY. July 29. Typists, society girls and suburban matrons will mingle in a fashion display at the Sydney Traffic Court next Wednesday when the first special court for women will be held One hundred women will be charged, some with jay-walking, others with having failed to obey the traffic signals. The police, fearing that many of the women will be inclined to argue, anticipate a difficult sitting, but they have played a trump card in appointing as prosecutor in the court tall and handsome Sergeant Lucas, whose persuasive manner may calm many an angry feminine mind. The court will open at 9.30 a.m„ and unless some men get in early and occupy the seats, only women will be in the courtroom—except the prosecuting staff and the constables who will give evidence All the women have been “requested” to attend. If they fail to appear, a summons will be issued. A summons will mean an increase in costs, payable on conviction
