THE LABOUR PARTY

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—Please allow me space to voice my strong disapproval of the Labour Party. As a working man I can see this country of purs being gradually driven into a Socialistic net. The days of freedom are quickly passing by and I predict that in a few years hence instead of having the promised Garden of Eden we shall only be a cog in a machine ruled by a dictator. • To-day we have youths and girls paying taxes in many cases . against their wish, yet they cannot object. Have any of our previous Government imposed taxation without representation of those who are taxed?

then again we have the wages problem. Th£ farm and station workers are not receiving any more wages' than they were before the depression and in many cases not even as much. Yet they have to fall in line with the increased taxation and cost of living. Surely we cannot blame the poor struggling farmer who is working 365 days a year and averaging ,12 hours a day; besides working his brain overtime to find the means to pay the increased taxation. ■ s. Now I ask you, Sir, what percentage of the extravagant sum of £23,000,000 set aside for public works expenditure have the land and its rural inhabitants to produce? There are many farmers who cannot pay their way even new. Perhaps from the increased taxation and the socialisation of the whole land and its contents will emerge the predicted dictator with his Garden of Eden'—but not mine. Why not allow the Left Wing of the present Government to.take control of the Treasury benches and increase taxation to 19s llfd in the £. After three months or perhaps less we would have a socialistic bankrupt country, but those agonising pains of increased taxation would quickly vanish on return to saner Government— l am, etc., Bungling 8U1...
