MODERN STYLES IN NEW FILM The long-waisted, short-skirted styles of 1927 were certainly not youthful. Paradoxically, the older you get, the younger you can look provided you just keep up with the changing fashions. Never was this more pointedly illustrated than in the new motion picture, "Invitation to Happiness," the story of which is unfolded during the oast 12 years. The starring actress, Miss Irene Dunne, nas a clever costume designer in this film, who has taken advantage of the last 12 years' fashions to show the gradual evolution of styles to the present day. There is a very interesting contrast in the summer suit worn by Irene Dunne in 1927 at the opening of >he picture and the one included in her personal wardrobe for the summer of 1939. The 1927 creation for the welldressed girl is a short, pleated white crepe skirt, high tied blouse and a long, double-breasted jacket of navy blue flannel with pearl buttons. The hat worn with it is a cloche of white felt showing the 1927 shingle with fluffy curls pulled out around the face line. But who would not prefer Hollywood's newest type of suit designed for sum-

This consists of a straight short, skirt of battleship grey Rodier jersey with an inverted kick-pleat in the centre-front; a tuck-in jumper of the same fabric with a white pin-stnpe running horizontally and a box jacket of the pin-stripe jersey used vertically With it Miss Dunne wears an extremely smart off-the-face hat of the same # g:ey jersey as the suit—a hat, which is as different from the off-the-face model of yester-year as it could possibly pe.
